Our Methodology

How we research, score, and rank agencies using data from 50+ sources across the web. Transparent, independent, and always up to date.

How we rank agencies

AgencyReview consolidates data from 50+ sources across the web, including review platforms, agency portfolios, case study databases, awards directories, and social proof, all synthesized into a single reliable score on a 0-10 scale.

We don't accept payment for rankings. Our methodology is transparent and applied equally to every agency we evaluate. One source of truth, zero bias.

Verified Reviews

We aggregate verified client reviews from Clutch, G2, Google Reviews, Trustpilot, and GoodFirms. Reviews are weighted by recency, depth, and verification status. We use fraud detection to filter out fake or incentivized reviews, ensuring only genuine client feedback influences the score.

25%

Portfolio & Case Studies

We evaluate the quality, depth, and relevance of each agency's demonstrated work. This includes published case studies, portfolio projects, measurable results, and the diversity of industries and project types. Agencies that show clear outcomes and ROI for their clients score higher.

20%

Industry Recognition

Awards, certifications, partnerships, and press coverage all factor into this score. We track recognition from industry bodies, technology partners (such as Google Partner and HubSpot Partner), design awards, and coverage in reputable industry publications.

15%

Team Expertise

We assess the team's collective expertise, including years of experience, specialized skills, certifications, thought leadership (conference talks, published content), and the depth of their talent across relevant disciplines.

10%

Pricing Transparency

Agencies that clearly communicate their pricing structure, hourly rates, and project estimates score higher. We evaluate whether pricing information is publicly available, whether it aligns with the value delivered, and whether clients report fair billing practices.

How rankings update

Rankings are recalculated on a weekly basis. Our data pipeline continuously monitors all tracked sources for new reviews, portfolio updates, awards, and other signals.

When new data arrives, scores are recalculated and rankings within each category are updated accordingly. This means an agency's position can change week to week as new information becomes available.

We prioritize recent data over historical data. A review from last month carries more weight than one from two years ago. This ensures rankings reflect current performance, not past reputation.

Frequently asked questions

How often are rankings updated?

Rankings are recalculated on a weekly basis. We continuously monitor data sources for new reviews, awards, and portfolio updates. When significant new data comes in, scores are adjusted to reflect the most current agency performance.

Can agencies pay for a higher ranking?

No. Our rankings are 100% independent and data-driven. Agencies cannot pay for placement, higher scores, or preferential treatment. Our revenue comes from matching services, not from ranking manipulation.

How do you verify reviews are genuine?

We rely on platforms like Clutch, G2, and Trustpilot that have their own verification processes. Additionally, we use fraud detection algorithms to identify patterns of fake or incentivized reviews and exclude them from our scoring.

What happens if an agency disputes their score?

Agencies can contact us to review their data. If we find inaccuracies in our sourced information, we correct it and recalculate the score. However, we never adjust scores based on agency requests alone, only verified data changes.

How do you handle agencies with limited public data?

Agencies with fewer data points are scored conservatively. We note when data is limited and encourage agencies to build their public presence across review platforms and portfolio sites to improve their score accuracy.

Why do some agencies rank higher despite fewer reviews?

Reviews account for 30% of the score. An agency with fewer reviews but exceptional portfolio work, strong industry recognition, and deep team expertise can still score well. Our multi-factor approach rewards well-rounded excellence.
